Residents and staff from Bevern View, were resplendent in a vast array of creatively decorative costumes and banners to host their own Barcombe Bonfire Night Celebrations on 5th November 2020 at Bevern View.

Each of the ten residents was head of their own bonfire society to reflect their interests and personalities.  They and their members dressed accordingly – for example, JP led the Barcombe Bonfire Society in red and black stripes, Chloe led the Neville Juvenile Bonfire Society in green and white and Mark led The Black Dog Society in black and blue stripes.  Ciaron was our resident house DJ, using our fabulous interactive screen, which was so generously funded by recent gifts, and we sang, danced and made music around our own coloured paper bonfire!

As dusk fell, our celebrations continued with beautiful coloured paper lanterns, generously installed by The Lantern House as part of the Arts Council In Our Garden project in care homes in Sussex.

Alice Fry, Operations Manager enthused:
“We had the most wonderful time with residents and staff celebrating bonfire night.  We have always been involved with the Barcombe Bonfire Society so this year we were keen to host our own event! The residents were thrilled to wrap up in the evening to see the glowing lanterns in the garden and share sparklers with staff.”

Sarah Parsons, partner, The Lantern House said:

“We had the idea for the project back in June when we saw the situation that had occurred during lockdown for care homes. We knew the likelihood of a similar scenario coming back in the autumn for them and we wanted to do what we could to bring some fun and light to people who couldn’t go out to find it. We are so pleased and grateful to the Arts Council for supporting this project.”
